When transporting, warehousing or otherwise handling Hazardous Materials on your premises, you must have an employee on the job who is trained and certified. If the shipment involves domestic trade or transfer, you require DOT - approved training under 49 CFR 172.702, 172.704. If goods or shipments to be stored originate from or are to be shipped to international locations, employees may require International Air Transport Association (I.A.T.A.) approved training. In addition, all employees must have Awareness Training, which is a basic training exercise required by law. Employees certified, either in an initial training exercise, either DOT or IATA based, require updates at one to three year intervals to maintain their certification. |
 |
Firms that ignore this requirement run the risk of fines, or delay of shipment in and out of their facilities. Even more compelling is the need to protect your employees and your physical assets from damage that mishandled hazardous goods may cause. Highly trained employees do not just protect your legal status but more importantly, provide a level of service and a commitment of safe handling of goods while in your possession. |
